Mark fence position

After determining the attribute line and legal setbacks, mark the location of the fence. Mark the position of the corner hole with paint. Mark the position of the remaining bobbins, keeping the distance between the columns evenly spaced about 8'.

Temporarily set up posts

Using a column hole excavator, dig a hole about 24" deep and 10" in diameter. Add a few inches of gravel to the bottom of the hole to drain. Insert the corner post into the hole. Make sure the posts are horizontal and vertical. Temporarily fix the 2"x4" struts on the top of the pillars and on the ground.

Run String Line

Run a string from the top edge of the corner post. Make sure the strings are tight and level. This provides a guide to make sure all posts are installed at the same height. Install the remaining line columns and check that each line column is vertical, the same height as the corner posts.

Assembly fence panel

The vinyl fence is composed of a bottom rail, a top rail and a slat. Assemble them according to the manufacturer's instructions. Snap the ends of the top and bottom rails into the corresponding holes on the fence post.

Permanently set posts

Mix the quick-drying cement and pour it into the hole according to the manufacturer's instructions. The 2" x 4" support was held overnight while the cement was curing. Remove the support. Apply PVC cement to the inside of the column cap and install it on the top of the column.

Most large box stores have actual dimensions of 3-1/2" x 3-1/2". Some of the hollow columns made of vinyl fences are real 4" square or 5" square columns. While these vinyl columns will fit the wood column, they will not fit tightly and require the difference in your gasket to fit tightly. Still, other manufacturers have designed a tight fit, but forced it to break the outer casing.
